The pilot may need to adjust his or her altitude in order to maintain VFR.  Thus, if the pilot is flying at 7500 and cannot maintain VFR, he or she could descend to 6500 and so on.

Westbound is considered:

 180-359 degrees (magnetic heading)

Eastbound is considered:

 0-179 degrees (magnetic heading)
